Preaching/Teaching
With most pieces of equipment that you purchase today the majority of them come with an owners manual. The owner's manual give you guidelines on how to operate and maintain the piece of equipment purchased. The Bible is God owners' manual for us whom He purchased with his own blood. It is the life manual that provides the guidelines on how to operate and maintain a victorious life in Christ.
"All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work." (I Timothy 3:16,17)
"The real strength of the Church is not the amount of its work but the quality of its faith. One man who truly knows his Bible is worth more to the Church's real strength than a crowd of worker who do not."(P.T. Forsyth).
Gifting
We need to have a proper understanding of who we are in the context of relationships with other believers. We are part of something larger than ourselves, and we need to understand our place in it. We are part of a Body of Believers. Using the analogy of the human body the Scriptures reveal to us that just as the human body there are specialized functions each one of us has a specialized functions in which each part contributes to the general well being of the whole.
“Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us let us use them…(Romans 12:6).” We cannot use our gifts if we do not know what they are. The word gifts, which is charismata in the Greek literally means "a grace gift".
Think of your gift as a tool, which is intended to be used, help others. Some people will be gifted in teaching, communication, administration, helps or leadership. The gifts God gives to us will differ according to God's grace. God gifts His people just as He pleases, bestowing many on some and few on others, some spectacular and some that go unnoticed, but all being vital for the Body. Every Believer is to put their gifts to use for the advancement of the Kingdom.
Prayer
Prayer is the channel of communication with God. This channel is a required lifeline and because our Heavenly Father know what is in our best interest He complies us to pray by commandment. However if our understanding of prayer stops at the Father's command we will fail to realize the intimacy that takes place in our communication with God. We must come to the place where we delight and desire the mutual affection of being in His presence.
Prayer changes the internal and external environment of our lives and “…the earnest (heartfelt, continued) prayer of a righteous man makes tremendous power available [dynamic in its working] (James 5:16 AMP).” Our prayers are powerful in changing external situation or circumstances in addition to the internal refining and molding that the Lord does in purging and renewing our souls.
Stewardship
God is the author of all things, creator of all things and owner of all things. “The earth is the Lord's, and all its fullness, the world and those who dwell therein (Psalm 24:1).” Based on this Scripture everything we posses do not in the ultimate sense belong to us but to God.
A steward in the ancient culture managed property and was responsible for allocating the resources of a home he did not own. God calls us to be good stewards over our time, talents, and treasures. This is merely a matter of perspective and a true reflection of whether our hearts our given to God. “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also (Matthew 6:21)” |
